When ICE is better than a heavy prioritization model
ICE is useful when a team needs a fast first pass. It asks whether an idea might matter, whether the team believes it will work, and whether it is easy enough to try.
Use ICE for experiments and early prioritization. Use RICE when reach and effort need a more explicit conversation.
Make scoring decisions visible
The most important part of ICE is not the number. It is the shared conversation about why an idea received that score. Save the score note in Kanvly so the team can revisit assumptions later.
- Use the same 1 to 10 scale for every idea.
- Lower the score when evidence is weak.
- Treat easy, high-confidence ideas as good candidates for quick tests.
